Overview of Ring Road Trip

Iceland: Mad Dash Around the Ring Road

I never considered Iceland to be a prime travel destination, but after I found a cheap flight on IcelandAir that seemed just too good to pass up, I decided that some research was in order. I was captivated after reading the first chapter of the Rough Guides book on Iceland, and started planning avidly. We had to do this on the cheap because we had so little time to save for the trip. As a result, we ended up camping and cooking almost all of our own food, so this blog is not going to cover luxury hotels or guesthouses. Regardless of your financial status, I hope this helps you narrow down what is worth your time and what isn’t as you travel to the land of fire and ice (truthfully, it’s hard to go wrong). Because I have a tendency to be more than a little wordy, I’ve divided up the destinations for you by day, so you can simply scroll down to the relevant topic.

Weather in Iceland

Just a note: When we travel, we tend to buy tickets spontaneously and travel during shoulder season. Because of this, we typically pay less for tickets, food, transport, etc. Please factor this in if you are traveling during peak season. In addition, our Iceland trip encompassed a tremendous amount of travel in just a week. I wouldn’t recommend going this quickly around the Ring Road unless that’s the way you always roll or if you’re truly pressed for time.
